Isn’t She Lovely, 2025
36 x 48 in.
Acrylic on canvas

This piece, Isn’t She Lovely, was inspired by one of the photographs from Gordon Parks’ book Segregation Story. I changed the focus and the color of the female’s dress color to create a higher, more intense contrast. Once again, the expressions of these subjects speak louder than words. It’s perfect how her eyes catch the viewer. In all of his photographs in this book, Gordon Parks tells a story that needed to be told to America. I hope by painting and highlighting these vignettes of the photographs, people revisit his works and ask more questions.
